Yacht Surveys & Inspections
Independent surveys and inspections of private yachts, performed personally and reported in writing.
Who this is for
Buyers who need a yacht's condition documented before committing to a purchase, and owners who want an independent record of condition for planning, insurance submissions, or their own files.
Before a purchase
A buyer may need a clearer understanding of a yacht's visible condition before closing. The survey documents accessible structure, machinery, systems, records, and sea-trial observations within the agreed scope.
Survey types
- Pre-purchase survey: an independent assessment of the yacht's visible condition, machinery, systems, and supporting records, to inform a purchase decision
- Condition survey: a documented review of the vessel's present condition for the owner's planning and records
- Insurance survey: condition documentation prepared for the owner to submit for underwriting or renewal
- Damage survey: inspection and documentation of damage, its extent, and the scope of repair
- Repair verification: follow-up inspection of completed repairs against the agreed scope
- Sea-trial participation where the transaction and conditions allow

How a survey engagement works
Scoping
We discuss the vessel, the survey type, the location, and the timing, then issue a written scope stating exactly what will be inspected, and what will not.
Inspection
The survey is performed personally, with systematic photographic documentation and, where scoped, sea-trial observation.
Reporting
Findings are compiled into a structured written report with evidence, severity, and priorities, delivered directly to you.
Review
We walk through the report with you, answer questions, and remain available as findings are negotiated, repaired, or verified.
What you receive
- A written report with findings, photographic evidence, and prioritized recommendations, delivered as a PDF
- A concise findings summary organized for purchase discussions, insurance submissions, or repair planning, as applicable
- A review call to walk through the report and next steps
Scope and limitations
- A survey is a visual, non-destructive examination performed under the access conditions available on the day; it cannot guarantee discovery of concealed or inaccessible defects
- Findings describe the vessel's condition at the time and place of inspection and are not a warranty of future condition or performance
- The written scope defines what is inspected and what is excluded; anything outside the agreed scope is not assessed
- Reports document condition; formal valuation is not included, and no report states a market or insured value
- Some insurers, lenders, flag administrations, or other parties may require a surveyor with a particular credential, affiliation, or report format; clients should confirm those requirements before appointing MARITEC
