Yacht Acquisition & Technical Consulting

Independent technical advice before, during, and after the purchase of a yacht, working alongside your broker, attorney, and surveyor of record.

Who this is for

First-time and experienced buyers, and owners moving to a larger or more complex vessel, who want a dedicated technical advisor working only for them.

During an acquisition

A buyer comparing candidate vessels, or weighing a new-build proposal against a brokerage yacht, often needs an independent technical view. We screen candidates, read the documentation, interpret the survey, and prepare planning estimates of likely ownership costs, estimates for planning, not guarantees.

Scope of the engagement

  • Candidate-vessel screening and technical comparison before offers are made
  • Review of technical specifications and build documentation for new-build and brokerage purchases
  • Technical due diligence: maintenance history, class records, refit history, and prior damage
  • Interpretation of survey reports and sea-trial results, with findings prioritized for negotiation
  • Coordination with the surveyor of record, broker, and attorney on the buyer's behalf
  • Delivery preparation: acceptance inspections, punch lists, and handover documentation

How an acquisition engagement works

  1. Consultation

A confidential conversation about your intended use, budget realities, and the vessels under consideration.

  2. Screening & due diligence

Technical comparison of candidates, documentation review, and a written assessment of risks and planning-level ownership-cost estimates.

  3. Survey & trial support

Coordination of the pre-purchase survey and sea trial, then interpretation of the findings in plain terms.

  4. Decision & delivery

Support through acceptance, punch-list resolution, and handover, so the vessel you take delivery of matches what you agreed to buy.

What you receive

  • Written technical assessments of candidate vessels, with comparison summaries where more than one is under consideration
  • A due-diligence file: documentation review notes, history findings, and open questions
  • A prioritized reading of survey findings: what matters for the negotiation and what does not
  • Acceptance and punch-list documentation at delivery

Scope and limitations

  • MARITEC is not a yacht broker and does not market vessels, negotiate price, or take commissions; we supply independent technical input to your broker's process
  • We do not provide legal, tax, or registration advice; contract, flag, and ownership-structure matters remain with your attorney and advisors
  • Acquisition consulting complements (and does not replace) the pre-purchase survey performed by the surveyor of record
  • Our recommendations are advisory; purchase decisions remain with the buyer

Frequently asked questions

Do you replace the broker, the attorney, or the surveyor?
No. Each has a defined role we work alongside. The broker runs the transaction, the attorney handles the legal side, and the surveyor of record performs the pre-purchase survey. We add an independent technical advisor whose only client is the buyer.
Can MARITEC also perform the pre-purchase survey?
Where geography and scope allow, yes. Where they do not, we help you select and coordinate an independent surveyor of record. Either way, the roles are defined in the written scope so there is no ambiguity.
When should a technical consultant be engaged?
Ideally before offers are made. Screening candidates early costs far less than discovering after survey that a vessel was never a realistic fit for your program.

Discuss the purchase before you commit.

Describe what you are considering and where you are in the process. We will respond with a candid assessment of the vessels, the risks, and a suitable scope of support.
